This morning I wrote a long post (you know how long-winded I am) about how Saint-Aignan and the surrounding area has changed, for better and for worse, over the eight years we've lived here. When it was all written, I clicked the Publish Post button and headed out the door for a walk in the vineyard with the dog.
I just got back, and on my computer screen I found an error message. Blogger couldn't process your request, it said, or something like that. The text is gone and there doesn't seem to be any way to retrieve it.
That's never really happened to me before, so I have no idea what the problem was.
Anway, I have to get back to painting. Yes, I'm still painting. Door frames and facings, and the doors themselves. There are four doors and doorways that still need work. Each takes many coats of white paint. So I'd better get to it. I think I can remember the gist of my lost post so I'll write it again, maybe over the weekend.
Ken. The same thing happened to me a couple of days ago. I later found most of the post had been auto saved and was sitting there just waiting to be reused.
ReplyDeleteMine doesn't appear to have been auto-saved this time. That has happened to me before too. This time, I went back through my browser history to see if could find the text, but no luck.
ReplyDeleteI know how you must feel. It's so frustrating! It's at times like that you feel like throwing the whole thing through the window! LOL
ReplyDeleteWord verification is flagist. That's what happened; your post was flagged by the flagist!
How frustrating! That's probably why I write most of my blog texts in Word first (especially the longer ones). And then I simply copy/paste them in the blogger software. I save them on a 8GB USB stick too. That way my 'work' won't get lost in case blogger crashes or shuts down. There is always a risk that I loose the stick, of course, but I'm keeping a very close eye on it :))
ReplyDeleteHow annoying after all your effort.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, looking forward to reading about the changes over recent years in Saint Aignan soon.
Looking at the bright side, having to recreate your post will be good exercise for your memory, although I'm sure your memory is excellent. :)

Arghhh!
ReplyDeleteLadybird, you are right. And it's funny, this morning when I started typing, I thought to myself that I should write the text in Notepad or some other word processor instead of directly into Blogger. But I didn't, to my regret. Another masterpiece down the drain ;^)
ReplyDeleteIt's so frustrating when Blogger does that !!
ReplyDeleteI write my posts in Windows Live Writer, which is saved on the computer and goes nowhere near Blogger until I hit the publish button. Then, if it fails, it's still there in my Live Writer folder/programme/application/thingy/what-ever-you-call-it, which came with Windows 7.
I don't write a blog, but I have oftentimes written a comment, and then had it disappear before my eyes!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your painting, Ken. I will still tune in tomorrow and the next day.
That has happened to me several times and was the primary reason I now write and save my blogs in Wordpad and then copy and paste them to the blog pages.
ReplyDeleteWV is "flooi" which is a lot like "phooey". I've been using an old laptop this week while my laptop is in the shop. The cursor of this evil keyboard jumps all over the place and I have been losing stuff, not to mention all my favorite places. I will be so happy to get my laptop back tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI hope your painting went well!
Horrors.....I hate it when that happens.....so sorry.
ReplyDeleteWhat I have been doing is continually hitting "save" as I write and sometimes just leaving the blog in draft form and simply doing a copy for the published one. That way the draft is always there till I delete it....unless Blogger sinks....perish forbid. but this way is easy and doesn't require moving around all over the computer.
