Speeding through Beaufort Inlet

Time is speeding by faster than this boat I saw racing through the inlet down at Fort Macon. Yesterday was a shopping day. I bought Texas Pete and other hot sauces, bags of dried field peas and small red beans, and other items at the supermarket to take back to France.

Then my mother, sister, and I went shopping at one of my favorite stores. It's called Roses and it's over in Beaufort. It's like what in France would be called un bazar — as in Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville (le BHV) in Paris — where they sell a little bit of everything. They had a huge bin of nice T-shirts on sale. They were $1.50 apiece or four for $5.00. They were just stuffed into the bin and you had to rummage through them to find the colors and sizes you wanted. I bought six of them. Then I found some nice, sturdy-looking flannel shirts with long sleeves (of course) and I bought two of those. Total cost for eight shirts: $20.79 (includes sales tax). That would be way less than 20 euros.

    1. I always check for T-shirts in this particular store because they often have very good prices.

  2. When I first read this post there was no mention of your shopping spree! If the T-shirts are of good quality, it sure is a bargain!

    1. They are of good quality and are name brands like Fruit of the Loom. I picked carefully to get the colors and sizes I wanted.

I've been doing my blog posts in the evening since I've been here in N.C. I forgot last night! We were invited out for dinner and the blog ended up neglected.

    1. The Rose's in Morehead City closed years ago, but the one in Beaufort is still in business. I think it's a great store. The Piggly Wiggly in Beaufort is also a great store, very local and old-fashioned with regional products.

  4. I cannot believe you got 8 shirts for $20.79, especially with the flannels. That is an amazing price. No wonder you wait until you go to the States to shop.

We had Piggly Wiggly growing up in Texas...don't know if they have them anymore.

    1. All the T-shirts and the two flannel shirts appear to be of good quality. They must be what they call fins de série in France — close-out items.

  6. Sounds rather like NOZ over here.... fins de série, bin ends, bankrupt stock.... always worth a visit.

    1. Walt and I went to Noz once but we only looked in. It was too crowded with merchandise and with people. The Rose's store here is three or four times bigger and I've never seen crowds in there.
