Two dogs — better than one?

The dogs are really getting along very well. I think Walt is going to post about Natasha's latest exploits today, but I'm not sure — we don't often coordinate our blog posts.

So I thought I'd just post a couple of photos I snapped a couple of days ago as the two dogs took a break from chasing each other around the back yard. They're in the shade of the linden tree, which is in full flower and swarming with bees. Then they saw me taking the photos.

Some days I wonder whether it was a good idea to get a puppy this year. "What was I thinking?" is the phrase that keeps popping into my head. At other points, Natasha is so pretty and playful and, in fact, well-behaved, that I think we're going to be okay. The fact that Callie seems to agree helps.

  1. I think that you were sensible getting a pup when Callie was middle-aged.....
It will have given her another lease of life probably.... and a companion....
Bertie now has a companion, too.... and you both get exercise and entertainment!

    1. Callie is very tolerant when it comes to having Tasha bounce up and down all around her, nipping at her ears and snout. I hope she enjoys spending time with the puppy for the long haul. Meanwhile, Bertie the black cat is becoming more and more of a homebody these days. Age... — les ans en sont la cause.

  2. This time next year Tasha will be more or less a fully grown adult, and you'll wonder where all her puppy ways have gone !

  3. I think your decision to get a puppy was inspired and you were so lucky to get one with the personality of Tasha.

  4. From our experience and all the dogs/cats that I have had through my life ... they do like the company of another dog. They adore their humans and want to be with them but life is also a bit better for a dog to have another dogs company. There really is nothing so sad as the sight of a dog that is so attached to their owner/human that they cannot just be doggy ... they are constantly watching the human and sort of clingy. I think you did a wonderful thing ...

    1. Callie has been totally bonded to us for years now, but she's also always gotten along fine with other dogs. She doesn't have a good relationship with the cat, but I guess that's natural. I'm hoping Callie might learn something about cats from Tasha.

  5. Another dog is a great comfort for the puppy and the season is good for being outside for the romps. All the effort will be worth it in the end.

    1. I know this puppy phase is always difficult. It won't last forever. But it will be a few more months before we will be able to leave the puppy alone in the house.
