Bertie the black cat has disappeared and I need to go look for him. Our neighbors who live in Blois were here yesterday, and if they closed up their house with Bertie inside, it wouldn't be the first time. Luckily, I have the key. I can't remember the last time the cat disappeared for so long.
Another neighborhood house that stands empty most the time had people in it over the past few days. They were driving a car that I didn't recognize. If they've left, they might have closed Bertie up in the house by accident. I don't have a key, but I think another neighbor might have one.
So here are few views of Chambord exteriors and architectural details to keep the blog going. I have so many photos!
The details are lovely.
ReplyDeleteHope Bertie is safe and sound.
Fingers crossed for Bertie's return.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and Bertie.... good hunting!
ReplyDeleteOn the "Chambles" photographs.... this is when the place gets interesting, the details are really worth looking at!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved yesterday's post about the kitchen....but I wouldn't have liked to be cleaning all that copper..... this wasn't there when we visited with 2000 other 2CVs and parked on the big front lawn.... else Pauline and I would have been down there like a shot!
False alarm, I guess. Bertie showed up nearly 3 hours late this morning and got his breakfast. I went and opened the neighbor's front door and called him — no sign of him there. Then he showed up with Tasha in the kitchen about 15 minutes ago.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news. I'm so glad he's back safe and sound, the little tinker, causing you more worry!
DeleteThanks Jean, it's unusual for Bertie to show up so late for breakfast. But there he was, so I didn't have to start calling neighbors to see who had keys to the empty houses in the hamlet. That was a relief. He ate a good breakfast of chicken leftovers and a little bit of milk.
DeleteI am glad to hear that Bertie is back. I love to read about him in yours and Walt's blogs. I even named my last kitten that I rescued from outside after Bertie. Mine is almost 4 years old now.
DeleteSo glad to hear your cat has returned. Hope all his 9 lives are still intact!
ReplyDeleteglad Mr B reappeared....maybe he was sleeping amongst the blankets somewhere inside.....they can appear out of nowhere sometimes......glad he's ok
ReplyDeleteThere's a box full of old plastic bags on top of a shelving unit in the garage. Mr B sometimes sleeps in it. Maybe that's where he was hiding.
DeleteI'm glad to hear Bertie is back!
ReplyDeleteThe photos with the black granite details are interesting.m I think Chambord was meant to impress from a distance. When you are close, it is so enormous in scale, you can't take it all in.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what these black details were made of. I thought maybe marble or slate; I didn't think of granite. The Angers region downriver on the Loire, is well known for its slate quarries.
DeleteHi chm,
DeleteYou are right. They used slate because a war prevented importation of marble from Italy (with apologies for the long link):

Thank you, David, for the link. It confirms what I thought about these black details being made of slate. Here is a link in French that explains the process replacing the slate inlays.
DeleteRemarkable chm, thanks. And the elevation drawings of the chateau are beautiful.
DeleteHa! I wonder if the neighborhood lady who said that she had been feeding him, had Bert over for an extended visit? I guess if he ate at her house (despite your having told her she shouldn't feed him), and wasn't hungry enough to come home for breakfast? ;)
ReplyDeleteNice that both Tasha and Bert were inside in the kitchen!
Beautiful Chambord photos, Ken!
So relieved to hear Bertie's back. You've had enough pet trauma for a good long time. xo
