Happy Holidays

Just a note today to say Happy Holidays to all — bonnes fêtes de fin d'année, as we say in Saint-Aignan.

We are off to the market to buy a fat goose. I might start cooking it this afternoon. That is, if I have a pot big enough to poach it in. More about that as it happens.

This year's tree at Les Bouleaux (that's the name of our house)

Don't eat too much, and be careful on the highways. We are supposed to get rain today, but it's going to snow just north of us, they say.

  4. Meanwhile here in UK we have had endless queues all this week as the country goes mad in preparation for the holidays. We're looking forward to escaping to France next week.
    Have a great Christmas!

  11. All best wishes to you and Walt for a Merry Christmas and good health in 2010.

We will be 10 or 11 around the Christmas dinner table, ranging from age 7 to 92, feasting on a fresh ham with kugel and stuffed shells. The variety derives from the Irish, Lithuanian, and Italian origins of those preparing the meal.

By the way, I love the abundant recipes you provide, especially the latest for steak au poivre.

  19. I think it's too late to ask you to keep one golden egg for me. Just in case, a small one will do.

  21. Merry Christmas! We have restricted Chaucer's internet access for encouraging bad behavior. Don't speak Dog, but we're pretty sure that last bit means "do not destroy the earth". Whew!
