Soixante-neuf

It's my birthday today and I have nothing worth posting on this blog. The past month has been like that. Between emergency trips across the Atlantic and back, lousy weather, and bad colds, I'm out of steam. Maybe that has to do with having attained the advanced age of 69 years. I plan to spend the year saying good-bye to my sixties.

I'm actually having two birthday treats today, food-wise. First of all, a good turkey sandwich from the bird I slow-cooked on Saturday. Dinde confite, pain de mie (sandwich bread), et mayonnaise. Simplement. Avec peut-être une feuille de salade. Doesn't that sound exciting?

For dinner, it'll be a blanquette de veau that I cooked a few days ago and put in the freezer so that it could travel...

  2. Dear Ken, Happy, happy Birthday! Age is just a number, or something like that...I have to tell myself the same thing. 70 is the new 40. I think that works. ;-)

    1. According to a recent study, you are almost spot on!
Late middle-age is measured from 70 now.
      We are elderly at 90!

    2. Age is a matter of mind;
      If you don't mind,
      It doesn't matter!

Don't say goodbye to your Sixties....
celebrate your sixties, fifties, forties, thirties, etc...
according to a recent study we are still young in our sixties.
Late middle-age starts at seventy now....
and we are only truly elderly when we hit our nineties.

  9. Happy Birthday Ken! Enjoy the day and the food. Will you be eating your blanquette at the gîte that you've rented for your road trip? Or have you postponed the trip till you are both fit again? Martine

  15. Joyeux anniversaire Ken !

  19. Turkey sandwiches make perfect birthday treats! I must say I miss the energy I had in my sixities, but each day is a blessing to be enjoyed. I love the comments Beaver and Christine made in French. Just imagine what would be missing from our lives if we hadn't learned the french language and then had the good fortune to travel/live in France! Have a happy day, Ken and enjoy being 69!

  20. Joyeux Anniversaire.
I know you had sun today, I saw it. On the TGV to Roissy, the announcer called what to my tin ear sounded like "Sen Padekor" but which turned out to be Saint-Pierre-des-Corps / Tours. So I waved at you and Walt. Had I known it was your birthday, I'd have sung a little birthday song, too.

  28. A very belated Happy Birthday to you, Ken. Having turned 69 in November, I can assure you there is nothing to worry about as we hurtle toward angst inducing age 70. Think of the alternative.

We're digging out from a major snowstorm where we lost electricity because falling trees and branches took down power lines. We are mostly restored. Looking forward to reading another year of your (and Walt's) terrific posts.
