An almost silent Saturday. Here are three more photos of that yellow house next to the church in the old town at Avallon.
The "window washer", as Tim called him, has to be a recent addition to the façade, because when I look up the area on Google maps street view, he's not there.
Now I can see it larger, it looks a bit like a "cardboard cutout" version of a Banksy....
ReplyDeletealso, that house was much larger...
the older window surrounds...
one cut through...
and the "dodgy" finishing with stone sticking out at left-hand side...
all point to it being much grander.
And the ground floor, right-hand window looks to have possibly been a grand doorway at one point...
hence the blocked off topmost panes which would probably now show floor ends and ankles!
It looks to have a wonderful tale to tell!!
That yellow house has gone through some changes but I think its present incarnation is very sympathetic. There's a unity there but the different stages in its history show through. And I love the window cleaner.
ReplyDeleteTransport me there, please! :)
ReplyDeleteYes the window cleaner guy is sympa. He reminds me a little of those rooftop Santas trying to climb down chimneys on French rooftops this time of year.
ReplyDeleteHi! I could have sworn I've been to this web site before but after
ReplyDeletelooking at many of the articles I realized it's
new to me. Anyways, I'm certainly happy I discovered it and I'll be book-marking it and checking back often!
