Now it's our turn

The
plumber
finished
his work
yesterday
before
noon.

The two building contractors more or less finished their work by about five o'clock. They'll need to come back, maybe tomorrow, to do some touch-up work. We've already started experimenting with furniture placement. We have a nice mirror to put on the wall over this chest of drawers.

Now our work starts. The first task is cleaning out the guest room and getting it ready for a visitor on Friday. A lot of stuff needs to be moved back into the downstairs WC and the bathroom. A lot more furniture needs to be moved around upstairs too. So I'd better get busy.

I ordered a new rug for the upstairs WC. It was delivered yesterday. I put it in the room this morning to see if and how it fits. The perspective of the photo makes the room look bigger than it is in reality...

  1. I think that the whole concept has worked wonderfully!

    1. We're pretty happy at this point. A lot of little minor things need finishing — they're things we can do ourselves over the course of the summer. Both the plumber and the builders have done a great job.

  3. The brown rug is 1m80 x 1m20 and it fits almost exactly. It has a rubber backing to keep spilled water from damaging the wood floor.

    1. Aim is everything.

This is not carpet. It's a rug that can be hauled out and washed. With its (synthetic) rubber backing, it will protect the knotty pine boards that are the floor under it. One day we might decide to have tile put down. The building contractor said he didn't think it was necessary for now.

  5. You only have a few steps from bed to WC now which is good for people our age. I like the rug a lot, the photo makes it look large, but I assume it's a manageable size.

    1. The rug is about 6 ft. x 4 ft. so the room is a little bit larger than that. It's big enough without being too big. I realized today that the pocket door and the frame around the doorway botn need to be either varnished or painted. Oh well, we have a lot of time ahead of us to get the work done.

    1. As I said, we are pretty happy. It will still take some time to get everything done and put back together, but we have nothing but time ahead of us.

  7. Rug looks perfect for the space. Everything came out nicely. Chest of drawers fits well against the wall too. Is that a blue map of Paris above the bed?

    1. Yes. Unfortunately, it has turned very blue over the years. I'll try to take a photo of it.

  8. That looks terrific--and I would like to hire these efficient and careful workers for a similar job. Do they travel?

    1. They do good work. They're the two guys who put in our new shower a few years ago. One is English, the other French, and neither has ever been to the U.S.
