Bertie the Black Cat, basking

On a recent sunny afternoon, Callie the collie and I were out wandering around the hamlet, just to get some exercise. We were over on the summertime neighbor's property across the street from our house. Callie started nosing around in the neighbor man's "junk" pile.

I just followed the dog over there to see what she was doing — which was munching on some fresh green grass. I looked around and was startled to see Bertie the black cat just sitting there watching us through his slitty eyes. Callie never did notice him, even though I said his name and petted him on the head.

Bert was keeping an eye on the dog, and listening carefully I'm sure, ready to run at any sudden movement. But he was also enjoying the afternoon sunshine. The warmth of it must have felt good on his head. I think he felt safe because I was there with the dog.

  1. Bertie looks very serene and content.
It's nice to have a bit of sunshine in February. It cheers us all up no end and cats do know how to find a sunny spot.

  3. Awwww, Bertie in the sunshine-- what more could you ask for!

Hey, is it just me, or does anyone else get ads for Cadillac popping up sometimes when they open Ken's blog? Maybe it's just Blogspot in general, so maybe it's a coincidence that it's Ken's blog (because I read his first in the morning)... these are little video ads or -- even more eery-- little audio ads that have no visual and just announce themselves. I have an ad-blocker in use, but these things still pop up occasionally when I read Ken's blog. Anyone else?

  4. That's strange, Judy. I've never seen any ads like that myself. And I've never seen advertising of any kind as a desirable addition to my blog. Anybody else...?

  5. No ads ever for me- on a Mac with lots of blocking.
Our cat Bella is also a sun worshipper.

  6. Nothing like that pops up when I read Ken's blog on our computer, but Cadillac is on to a good thing. Ken's blog IS the Cadillac of blogs.

  8. I don't get ads with Ken's blog. We use AdBlocker, but it doesn't always work with embedded video ads on certain blogs. It's quite disconcerting when the sound starts up but you haven't scrolled down as far as the picture so you don't realise it's there.

  9. No cadilac, no mercedes, no peugeot, either. Thank goodness.

I think you're right about Bertie feeling comfortable, knowing that you were there with Callie, Ken.

A little rain is falling here, we're due for more later. Yesterday and the day before were totally dry.
I'm sure you and "the gang" totally enjoyed your sunshine!

  11. Hello..I can't help but comment. I stumbled upon this blog while searching for Bertie which is my friend's cat in Cambridge. They look remarkably similar and share the same name too - amazing! https://pets.kindria.com/featured_pets/11-bertie-the-handsome-black-cat-from-cambridge
