Our weather here in Saint-Aignan is back to normal — gray and rainy. And comfortably cool, thank goodness. Late summer weather here kind of reminds me of early spring weather in North Carolina. I took these photos on a nice cloudy day at Fort Macon state park on Bogue Banks. It was in 2002, and a month before the April trip to Paris that would convince Walt and me it was time for us to leave California and move to France. I don't know how I managed to get so much time off from work.
Sometimes I think that I should buy a plane ticket and fly off to North Carolina later this year or maybe next spring. But I'm not ready yet. It might turn out to be my last trip home. Is it your impression that, where you live, a lot of people are getting Covid? A friend in California told me yesterday that that was her impression.
Here in SoCal I took a friend to the ER last week. They said there was a lot of covid, but people still act like it is all over. We still must wear a mask and show we are vaxed/boosted to enter any medical building. I wonder what the winter will bring.

ReplyDeleteYes, I feel like lots of people around me are getting Covid -- I think I know of 10 people who have had it (2 of those are in Spain, though) in the last month or two... with varying degrees of symptoms. At least two of those were miserably sick. When I flew to Vermont last month, I was just about the only person with a mask on... and I still caught either a bad cold, or some form of Covid that I didn't test positive for. I just went back to school, and we're having meetings with tons of people... almost no one is wearing a mask, but me. I think that lots of kids are going to get sick this fall. But... once that new Covid vaccine is out that is for the new variants, I think things will be safer.
ReplyDeleteThat one photo of the gull that is looking right at you... love it!
Are you talking about the bird that seems to be dancing?
DeleteThe bird's webbed feet are nice. Many people are getting covid here in Alabama, but not bad cases. As Judith said, I think the new vaccine for variants will be helpful. I'm glad I made it to France last year safely. Many friends that are traveling to Europe this summer are coming back sick or getting sick there.
ReplyDeletei fly tomorrow to New Orleans to meet new grand daughter. I am not looking forward to flying and it does seem like there is covid all around. I am one of the very few masking in the grocery store now. I certainly don't want to be responsible for giving any germs to the new baby...yikes. Thrilled to have a grand one living in the US (the other 2 are in Spain)
ReplyDeleteStay healthy, Melinda.
DeleteIn my development of 900 homes, I know of one couple who just got Covid although, of course, there could be more. I’m one of the few in the grocery store wearing a mask.

I've had to fly back and forth to NYC to help my mother. There are no masks in the airports or on the planes. I have not yet come down with anything Covid like (knock on wood) but I've been vaxed 4 times. Yes, people are getting Covid, and as far as I can tell for most the symptoms are mild.
ReplyDeleteGlad you didn't get sick during or after that trip. I'm not comfortable with tempting fate.

ReplyDeleteI had Covid in January and it was no picnic. I didn't start to feeling half way normal until the end of March. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Some people have it and claim it's just a sniffle. My PA had it and said he was fine after 3 days. I said "lucky you." I occasionally see someone in the grocery store with a mask on. Doctor offices that I've been to recently masks are optional. I'm sure in some medical offices, they are still mandatory. The crazy thing is it appears the vaccinated are catching it as much or more than the unvaxxed. I never got vaccinated. I still wouldn't after all the things I have read about it.
Like your other posters, I am the only one with (most times!) a mask on when I am out (supermarkets, mostly) running errands (library, gas station). Any friends/family that have had it were totally (4x) vaxed and their response was mild, with cold-like symptoms. Two of my french classmates returned from successful french vacations and they came back without any symptoms/problems. Perhaps you will feel safer traveling in the early fall, Ken. Shorebird photos make me smile! I need to drive over to the coast here! I haven't left town in 2 + years! I'm ready for a diversion and it seems you are, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary. Maybe next spring.

ReplyDeleteActually not too bad here, in Wisconsin. Rates of infection are going down. My grandkids have gone to camps, and they play with friends and no one got sick this summer. As a senior, I wear masks indoors, but I've been traveling this spring and summer on planes and yes, I do wear a mask and no I have not yet picked up Covid.
