The two photos with the sun in them are sunrises, looking east. The beach faces south, running east-west for 25 miles. There's a popular beach town called Emerald Isle at the western end of the island.
The beaches can be a little crowded in summer, but there was never anything to compare to a dip in the ocean waves when the weather got really hot. Nowadays, I prefer the beaches in autumn and in spring, because they are nearly deserted.
