I'm posting some photos I took in and of churches in Dieppe more than 15 years ago. One, I think, is the Église Saint-Jacques (photos 1, 2, 4, 5, 6?), and the other is, I think, the Église Saint-Rémy (3, 7, 8?). But I'm confused. Maybe it doesn't matter that much; just enjoy the photos. I have some more pictures taken in churches in Dieppe to post tomorrow. Maybe I'll figure it out by then... Oh, the last photo in this set (9) shows the 15th-century Château de Dieppe.

Great photos. I think I agree with you about St-Jacques. In 1939 I took a photo of that gothic church with a Kodak Brownie.
ReplyDeleteThe chateau is home to the Dieppe’s museum famous for its collection of ivorys. A painting of my granfather was loaned by the Louvre to this museum at the end of the 19th century.

I n the early years of the 21st century, this painting La Sainte Communion returned to the Louvre, musée d’Orsay.
That's an unusual painting, CHM. Your grandfather was a talented painter. I would feel very safe in that castle (from everything except covid lol)

DeleteNo, the three photos are the same. I don’t understand why there are three same photos. Click on them and you’ll see the flou disappear and it shows it larger. If you click the larger photo, you’ll see it full screen.
Thanks for the good Christmas wishes, Judy. As for being able to find the photos I manage to find, well... I'm not a very organized person, but I have more than 20 years of photos in my database, all organized by date taken. Still, I manage to find them.

ReplyDeleteAs for chm's grandfather's painting, I agree the image on the far right looks pre restoration - looks like there are a couple tears and frame abrasion around the edges, if you enlarge the picture. That's just a guess on my part, and the robe is green, not blue, so overpainting was removed?
To be honest, I have no idea. Since this painting is in the reserves and unlikely to be hanged in the near future I don’t think they’d have spent the money to restore IF it was necessary. So, I think the actual photo is the first one. I have no explanation for the other two and what they do here.
