Rouen is not just a city of museums and churches, it's also a big port city — the fifth busiest in France. Ocean-going ships can navigate the Seine all the way to Rouen, which is a distance of 80 kilometers (about 50 miles) on the meandering river. This is a photo looking upriver toward Paris.

Is it la Côte Ste Catherine the “mountain” in the back from where we have this beautiful view over Rouen? Or is it Bonsecours?
I'm pretty sure it's the Côte Ste-Catherine. So much of Rouen was destroyed by bombings during WWII. So many bridges, so many houses.
DeleteI wouldn't have thought about this aspect of Rouen. I think I tend to think of towns in isolation, without always knowing exactly where they are in France, and what surrounds them.
