Land- and skyscapes

As the weather pattern changed over the past few days, we had pretty skies.
We're hoping for some more significant rain this coming week.
It's been dry for too long.

At the bottom of the path down the hill and through the woods, there are wheat fields that have now been harvested.

Coming back up the hill and arriving at the edge of the vineyard parcels north of our house

  1. You do live in a very interesting beautiful and diverse area. I certainly hope you get some rain soon.

    1. Thanks. So do we, of course. Hope you are doing well.

  2. The vine on the wall of that shack seems to have disappeared?

  3. The little building in my first photo is our garden shed, not the maison de vigneron out along the road through the vines. That's the one that has the grapevine growing on it.

    1. Now that you mention it, I see my mistake. I was half asleep when I commented!

  4. I think we used to call skies with clouds like that buttermilk skies. Looks like Walt has made a pretty good dent in that pile of mulch.

  5. Thanks for this visual walking tour, it helps me get the lay of the land where you and Tasha walk. I was noticing too how much smaller Mulch Mountain has become.

    1. I think the mulch pile is just shrinking as it composts. First it was too hot for us to work on moving it. Now it is (thankfully) too wet. We have a plan: When we harvest the vegetable garden in October, we'll spread the mulch/compost over the garden plot and then I'll till it into the soil next spring. Should work.

  6. The photos are almost autumnal in color. Didn't realize just how very close the hamlet is to the vineyards!

  7. What a nice and interesting variety of choices you have for exercise/dog walks! Most people can just walk on sidewalks in their neighborhoods, or in my area there are several dog parks and other public parks they can enjoy but yours would be my preference.

    1. We were lucky to find this house in this location when we decided to come to live in the Loire Valley nearly 18 years ago. We knew more or less what kind of place we wanted, and when we saw this house and the hamlet we knew immediately that it was the one.

  8. It is great when that happens and now 18 years later you both are still pleased with your choice! That's the way I feel about my home, too. Unfortunately, aging in place will not be a good idea for me, 19 steps down to my front door and then a tri-level with more steps. I hate to lose the tranquility I enjoy living in woods (in the city) and the views of the western hills, a large lake and the sunsets, but I must think about my future, so moving is what I will eventually need to do.
