Relief

The marigolds outside the kitchen window have survived. Our weather pattern changed overnight after a windy day yesterday. The high was 36ºC — 97ºF — according to Accuweather. This morning it's still windy, and the temperature is down below 20ºC (that's 68ºF) for the first time in 4 or 5 days. There's actually a cool breeze blowing through the house — all the windows are open at 5:30 a.m. It's nice to feel the air moving again after days of dead calm.

Today's high is predicted to be 27ºC (81ºF) and that's still above average... but what a relief.

  1. Les œillets d'Inde sont superbes. Ils ont probablement aimé la chaleur.

    1. They don't get sun in the hottest part of the day, since they are on the east side of the house.

  2. We're hoping for rain, soon, just east of Paris. The sky is rather dark and the breeze is wonderful. The windows are all open, but I'm ready to jump up to close the them once the rain starts. (It tends to rain inside, if not!)

  3. We had some rain this morning. Lasted about an hour, but was very light. Temp inside the house is 22.5ºC, and the same outside. It's great.

    1. It's still hot out in the sun late in the afternoon, but much more pleasant now than over the past week or two.

  5. 97 is quite hot for your neck of the woods. We had pretty much the same weather yesterday, a record I think; like you hoping for some relief today.

    1. Very hot, but not as extreme as in August 2003, our first summer here.

    1. It's pretty hot where you are too. But maybe it's not above 90. At least I hope so.

    1. And it's hot where you are too, E. Yesterday afternoon when I went out with the dog I was surprised at how hot the sun was, even though temperatures are more reasonable now. And it's dry dry dry. Plants with deep roots, including grapevines and trees, are doing well, but the grasses and other ground cover plants are just parched.
