Fishing villages

My last outdoor event here in North Carolina was an hour sitting on a dock on the shores of Bogue Sound in the fishing village called Salter Path. The people — the Salter Pathers — who went to live and fish there when the whaling industry began to decline in the late 19th century, were squatters. Only in 1979 did they get the legal right to hold title to their land. Those who have remained on the island still make their living on the water.

  1. I'm now at Paris CDG airport. Flight was on time. I'm eating croissants and drinking tea for breakfast. I still have a couple of hours to wait for my TGV down to Tours, where Walt is going to pick me up and drive me home.

    1. I had a really good time over there too. For the trip back — turning in the damaged rental car, checking my bags, boarding the plane — everything was easy and there were no delays. Janice's oyster "cluster" made the trip just fine, with no breakage and no hassles getting it through security at RDU. The flight was okay, and at the airport in Paris my suitcase was one of the first ones to show up on the conveyor belt. My train trip from the Paris airport was easy too. All in all, no complaints.

  4. Thank you for the lovely reminder photos of NC. Brings back happy memories of a road trip from the Keys to Washington DC in the 80's. I do enjoy your blog, (being the same vintage!).
