Off to Chambord and Blois

We're headed to Chambord, the enormous château in the banner photo above, this morning. We have a specific reason for going, and I'm sure Walt will write about it in a day or two.

After Chambord, we'll go on a shopping excursion at Vineuil, which is the "suburb" on the south side of the Loire River across from Blois. There's a big zone d'activités commerciales in Vineuil, including an Auchan superstore and all the major big-box stores — Darty, Grand Frais, Casa, Bricorama, Truffaut, Picard, But, GoSport, InterSport, and on and on. It's about three-quarters of an hour north of Saint-Aignan by car.

The wind and rain stopped last night and today is supposed to be mostly sunny and pleasant. The winds we've been experiencing aren't much compared to the 100 mph gusts they've been having up in Scotland, for example, and the 120 mph gusts they had in Corsica overnight. We've got quite a few small tree branches down, and at least one big limb has fallen out of the huge cedar tree in our yard.

It's supposed to rain on Saturday and Sunday. Arrrgh.

P.S. My post was scheduled to go at 7:55 p.m. today. I meant it to go at 7:55 a.m. So I fixed it, but it's pretty late.

  1. Doesn't matter if you're late, Ken, we're just glad you're here! I love Chambord, the exterior more than the interior though, and can't wait to read Walt's report on it.

  2. We had 100mph gusts in Sheffield, just north of us on Wednesday night. It was pretty scary here and I didn't sleep much, especially as Nick was away in London, but it's nice and calm now and in fact has been a beautiful day.

That's winter, I suppose, you just have to take it one day at a time and just be grateful for the good ones.

Hope your shopping trip was fruitful !!

  3. What kind of store is "But"?

  4. Ahhh, I wondered where your post was when I checked this morning :)

You have, of course, piqued my interest in why you're off to Chambord!

  5. Starman, But (pronounced more like "butte") sells furniture and appliances.

    Judy, stay tuned.

Jean, hope you didn't have any damage to trees or your house in those high winds. We had a good, productive shopping trip.

    BettyAnn, :^)

  6. I just discovered your blog, have read many of your posts, and am looking forward to your adventures in the future. You are leading a wonderful life in France, and I am envious. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
