Grape flower stalk

If I understand correctly, these are grape flower buds on their stalk. The flowers are getting ready to open. They're tiny. Everything sure is green.

We actually had a sunny afternoon a couple of days ago, and I was able to take the camera out and document the state of our natural environment. This is just one of many photos I took. The sun is out again this morning.

  1. So far, it looks good. We've had sun in Paris too!

    1. Weather report says it's supposed to stay showery for the next 3 or 4 days. We're used to it by now.

  2. With reference to your headline of yesterday...
Pauline has noticed that this constant watering has enabled the carrots to germinate evenly... so it isn't all bad...
even if I feel like all my joints are rusting up!

    1. We don't grow carrots. Most of the cherries have either split or fallen to the ground. There are few apples. There are quite a few plums, and I hope some sun will help them ripen in July. I wish my red and dinosaur kale plants would take off and grow big, but no sign of that yet.

  3. The grape flowers are a month late, and very few. If it is still raining when they open fertilization will be poor. The winemakers are very worried. Luckily, despite it seeming to be perfect weather for fungal diseases, there is no outbreak. I was discussing all this yesterday with a winemaker friend and we can't work out why. I got absolutely saturated at Amboise yesterday, and at the market in Preuilly the day before. Bleh!

  4. The grape growers always seem to be very pessimistic, whether it's because the weather is too hot, too cold, too dry, or too damp. At least here around Saint-Aignan, we didn't have the freeze that affected areas to the west of us, and we haven't had any hail. I have never seen the vineyard this wet, though.

  5. Wonder if these are Sauvignon or Chardonnay grapes? Maybe the summer will turn warm and dry for a good wine year.
