Le Château de Meillant: carvings and statues

Here's a short slideshow made up of photos I took at the Château de Meillant near Bourges in central France. The stone carvings and statues on the exterior walls of the château are elaborate and varied. See my previous post for photos of the château itself.

  1. I know Blogger is not easy on your side, but it is not easier on mine. I have been trying pasting a comment and blogger refuses to let me do it. I have tried four different browsers, same thing every time. Then I wrote my comment directly and trying to post it, but there was an error. I’m ready to give up if I can’t pubish this one.

  2. O.K. for the last time, here is what I’d been trying to say. Excellent slideshow. Only photography enable us to see closeups of these interesting and amusing sculptures. OUF!

    1. Sorry for the troubles. On my side, one thing that frustrates me is that depending on whether I upload photos in HTML mode or in "compose" mode, the code I get is different. When I go into the code and edit it, I have to apply different edits depending on which mode I was in when I uploaded them. It takes a lot more time than it used to for me to produce a post. I sent you an e-mail to tell you I have copies of your photos of Meillant, Culan, etc, on my hard disk. How can I send them to you? Do you want me to try to send them?

    2. No, thank you. I’m in no condition to do anything with them and I certainly have them on the hard disks I was able to save before the house was sold.

    3. Je pense que le motto de blogger est, Pourquoi faire simple quand on peut faire compliqué (why make it simple when you can make it complicated!)

    4. I don’t think I would be able to cope with all the things you say if I had a blog. I’d get lost right away!

    5. I had some training in HTML when I was working in Silicon Valley. I know just enough to be dangerous.

  3. This slideshow was excellent and like CHM said, photography allows us to see those amusing carvings. I appreciate your posts, Ken. Your previous work is useful for your blogging and our enjoyment. Having the internet has been so useful during the pandemic.

  4. I enjoyed the slide show so much, thank you for all your work. I was especially curious about the statue of the woman holding a building and those animals (monkeys?) with the chains around their necks look quite ferocious!

    1. BettyAnn, the building that woman is holding looks like a church or a cathedral; so, maybe, it’s Notre-Dame of Something?

  5. Wow, I loved getting to see those closeups. The one with the growling teeth and chain (a sort of flying dog with wings??) was something else. It looked like an earlier one was showing men in chain mail...either that, or fur! Very interesting.
