Couleur locale (Selles-sur-Cher)

Tomorrow is le quatorze juillet, Bastille Day, but today in France it feels more like the 11 novembre, Armistice or Veteran's Day. Skies are gray, temperatures are chilly, and rain is falling. Météociel.fr says we should expect about an inch of precipitation and a high temperature around 60ºF (16ºC). Our outdoor thermometer reads 14ºC (57ºF) right now. To counteract the gloom, here are some colorful photos I took a few years ago inside the church at Selles-sur-Cher, a town 10 miles upriver from Saint-Aignan.

  1. Well, let’s be positive, there is no snow in the forecast!
I have a much smaller version of #1, also in wood and also painted, 15th/16th century, I think.
I guess the stained-glass windows are 19th century.
    Very good photos.

    1. I took the photos in this post on June 25, 2006, with a Canon Pro90 IS camera I had back then. I took the blurry photos of stained-glass windows at Chartres that I posted last week on May 31, 2006, with the same camera. What did I learn between late May and late June? What setting did I change?

    2. It might be a question of zoom. The stained-glass windows at Chartres are farther from you than are Selles-sur-Cher’s.

    3. I always think of you in your Paris apartment with the heat on in June, July, and August.

    1. Haha, I'm with you, BettyAnn. Nothing cheers me up on a grey day like seeing someone drive a nail into someone's palm! I like the horses in number 8.

  6. The blues are wonderful...they lean towards violet. I am partial to the window with the castle towers and latin motto.

Your 60 degree temp seems pretty lovely versus the baking temperatures most of the west had last week (116 in Portland, 102 in Victoria BC). Though I'm sure your potager is calling out for some sun.

    1. This summer reminds me of summers in SF. Sweat pants and long-sleeved flannel shirts rather than shorts and t-shirts. It's still raining, 12 hours after I mentioned rain this morning.

    2. That's a lot of rain! I'm sure the trees will like it though.

    3. It is really coming down right now. It's like coastal North Carolina rain.
