April yellows
Eastern France is shivering this week. And here in western France we are also feeling chilly. The good news is that we haven't yet had temperatures down to zero Celsius. In years past, April has been much warmer. These are pictures I took around the Saint-Aignan area between April 4 and April 27 back in 2004, when we had barely arrived here. Bright yellows dominated.

Love the bright yellow fields of rapeseed against the darker greens of surrounding hedges and trees this time of year, though I do wish the plant had a different name.
ReplyDeleteIt's called colza in French. I wonder if the plant is called canola in Canada, where the name was adopted as a work for its oil.
DeleteLove the yellows! We're having a cold spell here. The highs are in the 60s and lows in the 50s. I hope you don't get a freeze.
ReplyDeleteOur lows are in the low 40 or below. It's been snowing in the Vosges mountains in eastern France, and also in the French Alps. Afternoon temps are in the 40s lor 50s F.

ReplyDeleteWe're back down into the 50s during the day, 40s at night! Spring is always soooo up and down. We were up into the low 90s last week -- ha! Big wind and rain storms came, and now we're back to these more normal temperatures.

Forsythia is always one of the first, announcing Spring. So pretty.
