Three vineyard landscapes

I'm better this morning. We had lunch with friends yesterday, and they gave me a tube of ibuprofen cream that I can rub on my neck and shoulder to relieve the pain. I'm going to try to quit complaining.

Still, I will minimize the mouse-work by posting some photos that I had already prepared (cropped, contrasted, sharpened) for posting.

Our high temperature today is supposed to be 34ºC. For reference, 35º = 95ºF.

As always, you can click or tap on the images to display them at a larger size. I took these on my walk Sunday morning.

You can see how dry and tall the grasses and other plants are out in the vineyard.

Highs tomorrow and Thursday are predicted to exceed 35ºC. Watering the garden will be the order of the day. Maybe the tomatoes will finally get over their reluctance to ripen.

  1. Glad to know you feel better. Hope the medication will make the pain disappear for good. Still, be careful not to take the relief for granted.

    1. I think I have to give up sitting in this armchair and keeping the laptop on the coffee table. Maybe I'll have to set up your desk and work there from now on.

    2. It helps if you vary your sitting arrangement. One day, the chair and coffee table, another day something else. Gives different muscles a chance to flex.
When I was working all day on-line, I'd get up and walk every hour or so, just for a few minutes. It helps a lot.

  2. That is quite a high temperature. 95 degrees is Bain de Soleil weather. I know the US northeast has had quite a few record highs this summer as well. No doubt your tomatoes will feel the urge to turn red.

So with all the unusual temps (a cool, rainy early start, followed by heat) will it be a good year for wines?

    1. I haven't heard any predictions about the wines at this point. I do know that over in Chinon and Bourgueil, and even closer to Saint-Aignan, there was a freeze at the beginning of the growing season, so the crops over there will be reduced. We didn't have that freeze, and the grapes appear to be abundant. With all the dry weather we are having and have had for 2 months, and the deep moisture from the spring, they should be good.

  3. Take care of yourself, Ken.

Would you consider a standing desk? We rigged one up out of bookshelves and boxes and it really helped when I worked on the computer for hours a day.

We had been wondering if we should try to get to the tomato festival at the chateau de la Bourdaisiere. You've settled that with today's post.

  4. I suppose most of France, like the UK and the rest of Europe, is not well equipped to cope with hot weather.

  6. As far as I cam concerned you can complain all you want. That gives your readers permission to return the favor when they feel the need :)
Because of my husbands work, he had terrible pinched nerve pain in his neck and into his shoulder. There were exercises the doc gave him to keep things from acting up ... it did help. Good luck ...

  7. I've had various pain issues for over 30 years because of working in front of a computer. Most of them have eased up, and one thing that really helped was switching from a mouse to a trackball. I did that years ago when I developed terrible pain in my right shoulder, and it made a huge difference.

  8. Glad you are better. Is that cream sold in the USA? I have random knee and foot pains and it would be great to rub something right on the trouble. Get some bacon on hand for BLTs.

  9. E., I found these two pages on the web:

    Straight Dope site

    NBC article on FDA decision

So I don't know. My impression is that the ibuprofen gel is effective.

    1. Thanks for those links, Ken. I'll buy some of that gel the next time I'm in France. I wish it were available here.
