Things I like about summer, VII

Little café/restaurant places with tables outside,
just waiting for a noontime rush.

This one is in Saint-Aignan, on the banks of the Cher River. The picture is from June 2003, when we first arrived. At lunch, it was 11 euros for four courses, and that included a third of a bottle of wine per person.

That summer of 2003 was really exceptional. We had hot, hot, hot weather from early June through late September.

  1. Yesterday my family was reflecting on the fact that these lovely terraces will now be the smokers' havens. Oh well, you can't have everything.

  2. Montréal borrowed (stole) the idea from France. Lovely terraces all along Rue St-Denis...more French than the French...
I'ts coming in Toronto, a bit more staid, a bit more stylish...lots of movie stars...
True, as Betty says, the smokers will invade. Even in winter, they already stand outside, a paper cup in hand, a cigarette in the other! Some are my friends. What can I say?

  3. Betty and Claudia, the outdoor seating areas have always been havens for smokers. That part hasn't changed, but the inside part has. That's a good thing.

I'm an ex-smoker, but not a fanatic about it. Sometimes I wish I could smoke, in fact, but I know I can't...

  4. I actually liked the winter photo yesterday, but love today's picture. I was in France in 2003 and remember the heat. I'd love to sit in that sun and have lunch in that spot, please pass the bread.
