Yesterday

Here in northern France we've been getting some much-needed rainfall recently. We also get some pretty skies as a result. This was yesterday afternoon. I took the two photos above from the windows of our house.

Yesterday's lunch was fish (lieu noir — European pollock) fillets dusted with corn meal and baked in the oven. It was also fresh broccoli florets tossed in olive oil and dusted with spices (smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper) and roasted in the oven. To complete the meal, I made tartar sauce and Walt made pommes frites.

  1. are in NO way, shape or adressed to the readers of Ken’s blog, but are meant to answer his own question, “Qu’avez-vous à me dire?” It is the readers own responsibility to read or not, to appreciate or not what I wrote (typos included). Thank you for your time and attention.

    1. You often address your comments to other readers of the blog, and that's fine with me.

  3. The first photo is a chef-d’œuvre. To be really appreciated, the camaïeu (monotone?) needs to be isolated from the other photos whose colors clash with the delicate hues of this photo which reminds me of the late 19th century French painter Camille Corot, of the École de Barbizon. The double rainbow adds a nice touch to the picture.
    The rest makes me hungry.

    1. I'm not sure I see a double rainbow, but thanks for that comment. You can isolate one photo from another by clicking or tapping on them to display them full size.

    2. I just saw the second rainbow. It's very subtle. Have I mentioned that the ophthamologist I saw last year said I have a cataract developing in my right eye? I have to go back this year to see if the time has come to have the cataract surgery.

The Wikipedia article about rainbows says that all rainbows are double, but that the second one is often not noticeable. I'm going to say this again: I think you should so your own blog. You have much to share. Sharing in comments on my blog seems like a poor substitute for a full-blown blog written by you.

    3. I too have problems with cataract, but I have to get out of bed and in my wheelchair for that to be taken care of. In a few days or more probably. Good luck!

  4. Wow, it's amazing that you two were able to see the 2nd part of the double rainbow... I have to really stare, and talk myself into it, to see it...ha!
Ken, I went back through the comments from a few days ago, and now I see your remark about getting the Annuaire des châteaux... I don't always go back into previous days' comments, unless I asked a question, I guess :) (though sometimes I do!).

  5. Oh, and today's food post is appetizing... I love cornmeal on things for breading, or just to add a little crunch and flavor.

  6. I had to look twice to see the other rainbow. After Ken's remark I will always look for the second rainbow. The photo does look like a Corot indeed. It would look nice in a frame. You are fortunate to have that view everyday.
