I took a lot of photos of street signs when we spent two weeks in Paris in 2006. Some are just interesting: I wonder how much business the detective gets. The sign has been there forever, so he stays in business. And then there's the silk merchant. Some are commemorative: king Henri IV was stabbed and killed on the streets of Paris by a religious fanatic centuries ago. And some are just funny: bathroom humor on signs you can buy and take home.
Today we'll finally take the Citroën in to get its new clutch. I'll be glad to get it back. I'm determined to keep it running in order to avoid having to go out looking for a new car.
Those toilette signs are funny. It's interesting to see how the sign makers deal with accents. Fingers crossed for your car repair's success.
ReplyDeleteGee, it's hard to imagine a detective with a neon sign! Ha!
ReplyDeleteGood wishes for the quick return of your Citroën :)
Pipi room - well it certainly gets the idea across. I had to google the detective agency. It's run by a woman Martine Baret. The bulk of their cases used to be infidelity investigations for divorce hearings. But no longer. That apparently is no longer grounds for a divorce in France, lol.
ReplyDeleteLeDuc Detective Agency sign must have been the inspiration for Cara Black's novels in Paris with the main character being Amy LeDuc. I had read that there was an original agency of the same name! Her novels are a fast read and many interesting sites and culture of the parisiennes - if you like detective novels give her a try!
ReplyDeleteI've read some of Cara Black's novels but didn't connect the agency signage- thanks for that, Mary.
DeleteEvelyn, my french classmates and I have discussed Mlle LeDuc's fashion sense, the various locations Ms. Black uses in her books as well as the intrigues in her capers! They are light reading - but for francophiles (!) - lots of fun!
