Flowers for Bertie

I took these pictures of white flowers blooming in our yard back in April 2007 and April 2008. Bertie became a member of our household in April 2010 and left us in April 2023. April can be kind or cruel, I guess.

  2. Poor Bertie. He had come to be so affectionate in his last years. He started life with a close canine friend. They slept together in the same basket. Then we took him in and he was never accepted by Callie the border collie, so he had seven difficult years. But he never left us, despite having to sleep in the cold garage in winter. When Callie passed away, Bertie became friends with Tasha. He adopted her, I think. So late in life he had six years of happiness, I believe. I hope. I don't have any way of knowing if he died of natural causes, but I'm pretty sure he is no longer alive.

  4. Yes, white flowers for a black cat. I never thought I would like having a cat in the house. I used to be very allergic to cat dander, but I never felt allergy symptoms that I could attribute to living with Bertie.

  6. Oh, our dear Bertie! (And, to answer your question about the 2017 visit, I will have to check my photos, but I don't think that Bert came outside to be with all of us when we were visiting on the terrace. I would have wanted to meet him, and Betsy and Doug adore cats, too. He was probably hesitant, with so much going on that day.)

  10. There are often stories of cats getting lost or trapped then making their way back home. Maybe that will happen here. When I was a child our cat Sparky disappeared for a few weeks, then came back one day, and we never knew why.

  11. I'm pretty sure Bertie Is no longer alive, and I think I know what happened to him. But I don't know for sure, so I can't write about it. At 17, he was already close to the end of his life.

  13. Ellen, here. I don't know why I can't comment as myself. I am signed in. Anyway, I am sorry about Bertie. Cats do this -- just wander off when they are old and die. It's tough missing them, realizing how much their presence meant.
