Paris after dark - 17

Walt and I had a memorable meal in this restaurant called Le Vaudeville back in January 2000. It's on the rue Vivienne near the Bourse (stock exchange), not far from the Opéra Garnier. We had been to a concert at the Olympia theatre that evening. We arrived at the restaurant at about 11 p.m. It was packed with people, a noisy crowd enjoying good food and wine, as well as a lot of cigarettes. We were seated at the restaurant's non-smoking table, which was right in the middle of the place, surrounded by people smoking. We laughed about that. I'm not sure what we ate, but I remember that it was very good. Le Vaudeville specializes in seafood.

After dinner, we walked back to our rental apartment on the rue de l'Université near the rue Cler — a two-mile stroll. The weather was mild and misty. It was very atmospheric. We were jet-lagged, so midnight felt more like late afternoon since our bodies were still on California time (9 hours earlier than Paris). We had flown to Paris for the weekend and didn't even try to get over the lag. Here's a link to the brasserie Le Vaudeville's web site, with lots of photos.

  1. This looks like a marvelous classic restaurant! Putting it on the list. We had a nice lunch at Brasserie Gallopin on just the other side of the Bourse a few years ago.
P.S. I think the reason Google forces some of us to post as Anonymous is because we don't accept third party cookies. But who really knows?

    1. Hi Kiwi! I don't accept 3rd-party cookies, but I'm able to post with my account... but, only with my desktop Mac. When I use my iPad to comment, it's impossible to get it to register my comments with an account, now that they've changed the system for commenting on Blogger blogs.

    2. Judy, I comment this on my iPad and, as far as I know, I too don’t accept third party cookies and I can comment with my account. Being stuck in bed, I cannot use my laptop comfortably. So I don’t know what the situation would be on the laptop. Les joyeusetés de l’électronique

    3. I think after you write your comment, there is a drop down menu (a light gray arrow) next to "Anonymous" that lets you use a name in several way. Hope this is helpful.

    4. See this web page for an explanation of the relationship between enabling third-party cookies and being able to leave non-anonymous comments on Blogger blogs. Thanks, Diogenes, for your comment. I hadn't noticed that little gray arrow before. I wonder why blogger took away the ability to preview your comments before publishing them.

  2. Wow, that place looks like every movie scene ever filmed in a Parisian restaurant or café! The food looks amazing, too. Wow.

  4. The menu had a rather interesting expression "Sur le pouce" - on the go per translation online. The prices look reasonable because of current exchange rates. Lovely interior.

    1. another way to translate "déjeuner sur le pouce" is "to have a quick lunch"
