The 2018 harvest moon

The full moon that happens closest to the autumnal equinox (late September) has long been called "the harvest moon." The full moon at the end of October is called "the hunters' moon." The two terms date back to at least the early 1700s.

I took these two photos on September 27. The time stamp on the photos says I took them at 8:18 a.m., as the moon was setting and the sun was rising. The moon was no longer completely full, but starting to wane. This is how my camera saw the 2018 harvest moon.

And this is how Photoshop interpreted the image when I processed it. The software reset the "levels" in the image and made the sky very dark. I took the photos with my Panasonic Lumix TZ60/ZS40 long-zoom digital camera. We've been having a lot of very clear skies for the past two or three months.

  1. It is very difficult to take photos of the moon but your photos are great.

  2. As a city boy, I never knew there was a lune des moissons nor a lune du chasseur. It is the same wording in French and in English. You learn a little something dvery day!
