Saint-Vaast is an unusual name, don't you think? It's pronounced as if it were written Saint-Va. The double -aa- doesn't prevent Vaast from being pronounced as a single syllable. Saint-Vaast is just a short drive south of Barfleur on the eastern-facing coast of the Contentin peninsula. Walt and I went there to see it and also to taste the town's famous oysters. Its oyster beds are the most extensive you'll find along the Normandy coast.
I don't remember whether we were there on the weekend or on a weekday. All boats there that day make me think there might have been some kind special (sailing?) event being held. It was May 13, according to the timestamp on the photos. I just checked my laptop's calendar app and seems it was a Friday. I like how the harbor is so completely different from the harbor at Barfleur.
Boating is a way of life there I see.
ReplyDeleteA very bustling harbour. I love the sailboats with all the colorful flags.

I'm a fan of all the colorful flags too. Saint-Vaast almost seems Dutch.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read, the name St-Vaast comes from Flanders/Picardy/Wallonie. In other words, Belgium and northern and northwestern France. Maybe Netherlands too then.
DeleteI'd like to see this some day :)
ReplyDeleteAs CHM used to say, en France, tout est à voir.
