Hamlet houses

These are just a few more sunshine pictures that I took last week. The first three show our house out in the country near Saint-Aignan (just two miles away). We bought the house in 2002 and moved to France in 2003. In the third picture above is our dog Natasha, a Shetland sheepdog that we've had since 2017. We've had only one bright sunny day this December. Early in the month, we had a lot of rain. Since before Christmas we've had thick fog most days. It's been dreary for a while now. For almost a year, really.

There are nine houses in the little settlement where we live. Five of them, including ours, are lived in year-round. The two in the pictures above are the two that are closest to ours. They are not lived in by the people who own them and who come here from the big towns of Blois (less than an hour north) and Nevers (about three hours east) only once in a while to spend a weekend or a few days in the hamlet.

  1. The two part time homes are cute. And their shutters look like they really work as opposed to being just decorative. Surprising we've got thick fog here in LA today.

    1. The house on the right is the one owned by our neighbors whose primary residence is in Blois. It has a big kitchen, a big living room, a modern bathroom, and a fairly big bedroom downstairs. Up stairs there's a loft that serves as a dormitory that sleeps a dozen people or so (usually young children), as well as one bedroom that is a private room (has a door). I've only ever seen the main floor of the other house. Like ours it's a pavillon sur sous-sol with the main living area one floor up from ground level. I think it needs a lot of work, but the woman who owns it never comes and stays for more than two nights at a time. She is the director of a nursing home over in Nevers, three hours from hereby car.

  2. Ahhh! The sunshine! It looks so nice, and makes such a difference!
(I think there is a typo up there, where you said that you bought the house in 2022.... I guess you meant 2002?)
