Deux églises et une gare

The church above is the Chapelle Saint-Louis de Carteret (on the left and on the right in two different views). The plaque in the middle photo is on the wall of the church. Evidently, the chapel was on the property of the Carteret family and has stood there since at least the early 14th century.

The church below is the nearby Eglise Saint-Germain de Barneville, which was built in the 11th and 12 centuries but has been greatly modified over the centuries. The old train station in Carteret is no longer connected to the French national railway system but the northern end of a line that connects Carteret to the little town of Port-Bail five miles south. I think it's mainly for tourists.

  1. Listening to Christmas music, sipping fresh, hot coffee, and checking out your photo memories... great way to start this very chilly day (it's 20°F here today... was in the mid 50s yesterday!).

  2. That sounds like a great way to start a morning Judy! So Ken, that stone says the Carteret family were Scandinavian originally? Interesting...
