L'Église Saint-Sulpice...

...seen from the top of the Tour Saint-Jacques. Saint-Sulpice is in the St-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood. It is dedicated to Sulpice le Pieux, who was the archbishop of Bourges in the seventh century A.D. You can see another photo of the church here.

  1. I’m sure your readers will be really excited to know that Saint-Sulpice is not my favorite church in Paris.
This single photo from the Tour Saint-Jacques is excellent.

    1. Let's get positive. What is your favorite church in Paris?

    2. Never been to Saint-Sulpice. But my favorite church for sure is Ste. Chapelle. Stained glass galore.

    3. Same as Diogenes! It is so elegant!

    4. It's too bad that the Sainte-Chapelle is so hidden from view, and that you have to stand in line out on the sidewalk for so long before you can get in.

  2. I remember walking by Saint-Sulpice every day,, en route to the Alliance, that first month, while we were staying on rue du Four :)

    1. I remember walking across the place St-Sulpice probably many hundreds of times 40 to 50 years ago and always enjoying the experience. There was so much to enjoy in that neighborhood.

  3. Lovely church, many visits with wife, and once with mother in law. Patricia Wells recommended the cafe across the street, good coffee for Paris 30 years ago, and a nice antique market. Stayed in a great cheap hotel, (Hotel Recamier), that overlooked the square, I think it’s gone quite upscale. And who can forget the Tom Hanks movie, the DaVinci Code. Thanks for the picture.

    1. I always meant to stay at the Récamier on one of our '80s and '90s trip to Paris, but then we discovered the Hôtel de l'Avenir just a few minutes' walk down the rue Madame. In the mid-90s we started renting apartments in Paris when we went to Paris so that we could cook dinner for ourselves. It was fun to shop for food in the markets. We would have inexpensive lunches in restaurants and then make dinner in the apartment.
