Just a cold, or covid?

I've decided that what I have is a cold. Not allergies. A bad cold. I'd been having allergy symptoms for about a week, until yesterday. Then I took a turn for the worse. Walt has it too. Congestion. Coughing. Aches. Pains. A drippy nose and crying eyes. Is that what covid is like for people who've been completely vaccinated? I don't have any fever, but I had chills all day yesterday. I had to cancel my haircut appointment. I had planned to go to a friend's house to help her upgrade her computer, but I thought it was better to cancel that too. Don't want to spread this thing around.

Maybe this is where I need to go today. Well, not this specific pharmacy. It's in Paris.

  1. Unfortunately, I can’t help you with Covid because when I got it I was asymptomatic. I don’t remember if I got it before or after being vaccinated, but probably before.
In any case, take this very seriously. Better safe than sorry. There could be a variant circulating with different symptoms. Your pharmacist should be of help and advise you on what to do. I keep my fingers (toes included) crossed.

  2. Sounds more like a cold to me. In England we are able to order online, a home testing pack of 7 tests from the Health service. Can you not do the same? It’s mostly coughing with COVID, which lasted for about 5 weeks after I got over the virus last July; it took 11 days before I tested negative. My husband and son had a few symptoms, and no symptoms respectively. We are the same age as you and had all the jabs! Look after yourselves..😷😊

    1. I think it's a cold. I feel much better this afternoon than I did this morning. I don't have a deep chest cough, just a scratchy throat. Thanks for your comment.

  3. Could be Covid, so good to self-test if you can, just so you will know and isolate as necessary. As Pats says, lots of coughing and congestion that may keep you from getting enough rest are often the main symptoms these days. Also, you may begin to feel much better after a week or so, but then get hit with another wave of symptoms. My doctor said to just keep up "les solutions grand-mère" like chicken soup, sleep whenever you can, and stay warm. Hope you will both feel better soon, no matter what the virus.

  4. Most people who get Covid report having a really bad headache for a couple of days, and often persistent coughing. Do you really not have a stock of testing kits at home?

    1. No, no test kits here. And my coughing is no worse than usual.

  5. maybe test just so you know and if it is covid you can take paxlovid or something to hopefully cut it short...I would just want to avoid long covid which sounds horrid...feel better

    1. Good advice. I do feel better this afternoon. I walked the dog twice today.

  6. Why not test? Simple, quick process and, if you are positive, consider Paxlovid. Not everyone has the same symptoms not even with Covid contracted at same time, in same place.

  7. Paris is always a good idea! I'm not anonymous - I'm sillygirl - what changed to be anonymous now?

  8. I had something like you have last May. I tested twice for Covid but was negative. It took me a month to get over whatever it was. Just take it easy and test just in case. Bon courage.

    1. I can't remember the last bad cold I had. I think that's what I've got now, along with allergy symptoms.

  9. I vote for allergies with a bad cold. It is winter and you are not outside in the fresh air. Take Theraflu and move on.

    1. This afternoon what I have seems to be an allergy attack. Walt's cold is worse than mine.

  10. I had Covid in October. Likely the Omicron variant. I had the runny nose and watery eyes, then chills (I had to layer blankets on the bed), then night sweats. It took 2 weeks to get over it. I never had a big cough. I also had back pain for a couple days, which apparently is a newer symptom. The cure was lots and lots of sleep.
Do you have a testing center nearby?

  11. Just reading this today, Saturday, so I wish you, both, well. Those are for me, typically winter, cold symptoms which I hate (chills, aches and difficulty in sleeping).
