A big mushroom bloom

There are mushrooms everywhere in the vineyard and in our back yard right now. I don't think I've ever seen so many. It must have to do with this year's weather, which was very dry and often really hot until September and October. Actually we're in another dry spell right now. The mushrooms in these photos are pretty little things.

  1. If they were edible that would be a great harvest. Maybe you should ask the pharmacist just in case. A mushroom omelet would be good!

    1. I think the mushrooms in these first four photos are a variety of coprins that my mushroom book says are à rejeter — not good to eat. I don't know what the mushrooms in the fifth photo are.

    2. I'll let you two try your omelets and see how it goes. Ha! While they're attractive looking, mushrooms are a thing where there's little room for error.

    3. I agree with you, D. Once a friend brought us some mushrooms from a nearby forest. I took them to the pharmacy where Mr Martineau looked at them and said they were good to eat. I dried them in the oven to preserve them, and we ate them a few weeks later. I didn't detect any fantastic taste. We like to get button mushrooms (champignons de Paris) from the mushroom lady at the Saturday market in St-Aignan. The cellar where she grows them is less that a mile from our house.

  2. Gracious! I never understand what causes mushrooms to grow where you don't expect them.

    1. It's all about spores hiding in the grass or soil.

  3. The mushrooms are so pretty mixed in with the different greens.

  4. Love the first photo. We've had no rain for many weeks now, luckily we have a sprinkler system.

    1. We don't have a sprinkler system. Besides, because of the drought we're not supposed to do any but essential watering. I can't eve wash my car.

  5. Interesting, because I usually associate a big mushroom year with rainy weather.

    1. We did have rain in September. The weather woman on Télématin said Sept. is the only month in 2022 that has brought more than average rainfall.
