Vineyard in springtime slideshow

There was thunder and lightning starting at about three o'clock this morning. I lay in bed awake and counting the seconds between the flashes of lighting and the roar of the thunder. The thunderstorms seemed to be moving across toward the north, between five and ten miles from us. Hard downpours alternated with lighter rainfall to give our vegetable garden a good drink.

P.S. As of today, I'm qualified to get the second Covid vaccine shot. This comng week I'll have to figure out how to get it. Wait for my doctor to call? Go to the pharmacy and see if they will give it to me? Or go to the Centre de vaccination at the hospital in Saint-Aignan to see what the possibilities are there?

P.P.S. Walt found out yesterday that this year's Tour de France will be riding through Saint-Aignan (from Tours via Montrichard and on to Valençay and Châteauroux) on July 1. That will be a lot of excitement.

  1. THe storms started at 5a.m. in Nogent-sur-Marne, just east of Paris. But by 9 the sun came out. I'm now (10a.m.) looking at a blue sky. More storms are expected this afternoon.

  2. About the vaccine -- I'm surprised you didn't get an appointment for the second vaccine immediately upon getting the first shot. On Doctolib, where we made our appointments, the second appointment was issued by the app as soon as the first appointment was made. Our kids, who live in Paris and just became eligible for vaccinations, have their first shots coming up this Sunday, the 6th and the second jabs on July 18 - in Nogent, remarkably, as that was the center that had the earliest convenient appointments open for them -- Pfizer vaccines.

    1. I'm not sure our little médecin de campagne runs the most organized operation in the world. When we got the first shot, he just told us that he would call us and make an appointment for us to get the second shot. So far, no calls. Walt got his first vaccine dose on March 12, and I got mine on April 2.

  3. Lovely slideshow. Bertie found a spot where he could check his surroundings.
Don't you get the second shot at the same place you got the first?

    1. The first shot is looking north, and the second is looking west.

  4. Chase down the vaccine, I look forward to your report on the Tour passing through town, something I'd like to see some day

  5. Yes, yes, chase down the vaccine! I'd suggest you start with wherever you got your first dose.
Very cool news about the Tour going through Saint Aignan!

  6. Enjoyed the slide show. Here we had to work to get our shots lined up. We didn't get an appointment for the second shot. It helped to look online and use news sources, neighbors, etc. Having had the second shot will make watching the tour feel safer. What time of day will the bikers come through St Aignan?

    1. I don't know what time, but I'll see what I can find out.

I heard on the news today that self-isolating in a police-approved hotel at arrival is still required...

I don't think quarantining is required, but maybe a compelling reason for travel is. What do you think? It is pretty exact. I think a covid test is required but not certain.

    3. Oh, just realized that not vaccinated people are required to have a compelling reason for travel.

    4. Evelyn, I'm very confused about what the requirements are for Americans wanting to come to France right now. Maybe the airline would know? Airline staff are required, I think, to enforce the current rules. The rules I'm least sure about are the motif impérieux ("compelling reason") for the trip and the auto-isolement upon arrival requirements. I read or heard somewhere that if you don't have a reservation in a government-approved hotel for the seven-day quarantine period upon arrival in France, the airline will refuse to let you get on the plane. But I don't actually know if that's true. I'm already in France, and I'm not even thinking about any travel before 2022 — not even road trips within France.

  7. Le Tour! How exciting for you! Sure wish I could be there to see the cyclists and all of the 'hoopla'!!!

Yes, here they have been saying in the news (TV & radio) and on the internet---don't assume anything when it comes to getting vaccinated. Call your city, the local hospital, the pharmacies, your Dr. and don't give up! Ask everyone you run into if they have any suggestions on where you can get your second dose. I would start with your own dr. who gave you the first shot. Bon chance.

    1. Walt asked the doctor last week. He was told the office is working on a schedule of appointments and will call us.

  8. You can get the vaccine pretty much anywhere here. CVS, Walgreen's, Walmart. Usually they only have one type, but you can find out which one they have online. Astra Zeneca not approved here yet because they haven't request it. NYT did a big article on vaccine tourism to the US:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/29/world/americas/latin-america-vaccine-tourism.html

Here they give you an appointment for your second shot 4 weeks after the first. In Canada my sister says they are spacing 8 weeks.
