De roses roses

In our new yard there were two rose bushes producing these pink roses (ce sont des roses roses...) when we came to live here 18 years ago. They were planted at the base of the concrete posts that hold up the clothesline on the north side of the house. I thought they were in the way, so I dug them up and replated them in places where they got more direct sun. One came back up from its roots next to one of the concrete posts, and I've left it alone. All three are doing well. Until our recent rains and winds (we've had a lousy week or two, weatherwise) they were beautiful. My photos don't really do them justice.

  1. La rose est le sujet préféré, au propre et au figuré, des poèmes de Pierre de Ronsard
Rose, in the proper or figurative sense, is the favotite subject of Pierre de Ronsard in his poems.
The well photographed rose on the second photo is lovely

    1. We had a lot of wind and rain over the past week, so the roses have been blowing away. There was a tornado at St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil that caused the village church's steeple to fall onto and through the roof, causing major damage inside. We were on the edge of the front that spawned the tornado, and the wind her was fierce. We got about 30 mm of rainfall too. In Alfortville, most of the roof was blown off a big apartment building by what they are saying was also a tornado. The towns of Beauvais and Reims had heavy flooding yesterday because of heavy rains. Now I see that Alabama in the U.S. had major damage from a tropical storm. I hope that damage doesn't interfere with Evelyn's trip to France.

    2. That kind of weather is rare in France.

    1. Lewis' back won't allow him to travel over the pond this time. I'm traveling with a friend, Esta who is very excited. There is a lot of hassle. France required a negative covid test until June 17th, now it doesn't. Rules are constantly changing and it's difficult to keep up. I will breathe a big sigh of relief when we get out of CDG.

    2. But you have your vaccination card...so hopefully that will be enough. Glad you are able to go. I'm sure it will be a wonderful trip.

    3. Thanks, Diogenes! This trip was planned in the fall of 2019, using ff miles for travel. It's been a long time coming.

    4. Oh! Evelyn. I'm so sorry for Lewis. I didn't know he had a bad back. I, myself, have known all about that for many years, so, please, tell him that I am with him on this. Hope he still can move around without pain. Was it at La Fontaine de Mars I saw you both last?
Hope everything goes smoothly for yoi on your trip. As Diogehes says, you have your vaccination card, so!

    6. I did remember Le Petit Lecourbe, but I didn't remember if it was before or after la Fontaine de Mars.

    7. Perhaps Lecourbe was in 2015 or near then, La Fontaine de Mars was just after the Obamas had a meal there, so it was earlier.
