Those reading this blog are probably tired of Chenonceau castle by now. I still have a lot of photos.
Here's one, for example, that my sister, Joanna, took in September 2007 when she visited.
The two people on the right are our friend Janice, who came to France with J., and me.

Below is a photo of a painting that I took inside the château in March 2006.
And here's a slideshow of photos that I took at Chenonceau in October 2000. That's where this series of posts began.
I was going to post the slideshow days ago, but then I kept finding more and better photos from subsequent years.
Finally, I scanned through all my photos of the Château de Chenonceau to find one that sort of shows
And there's the money shot at the end! Thanks for posting this. I've never seen this side before - it definitely looks like there could have been more.
ReplyDeleteThis Google Maps aerial view is interesting.
DeleteLove that google map! I see a small hotel fairly near you.
DeleteThanks for this, I am such a map nerd. Your property looks so nice!
DeleteHa! In the aerial view I see there's a maze. Don't know that I visited that.
DeleteWondering why the building stopped in mid-river.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm intrigued by the structure of the garden in yesterday's photos. It looks as if an entire small fortress was built in the river to contain it, and again, Why?
I think the construction was put on hold because Catherine de Médicis ran out of funds, and then because a plague affected the region. Then she died.
DeleteThe walls or dikes around the gardens must have been put there to protect against flooding. The path along the river on the opposite side does flood every few years. I've seen it so muddy you couldn't walk along there without waders or hip boots.
Off topic. Any idea what happened to Starman and DeanFrance?
ReplyDeleteNo, no idea.
DeleteThe last comments I got from Starman were in April 2014. And the last one from Dean France was in 2018, when he sent condolences after my mother passed away.
DeleteStarman had big health problems and wasn't a spring chicken anymore, but Dean France was much younger if I recall correctly. Sometimes, people just disappear!
DeleteNadège, ma cousine, Martine, Candace...
DeleteI need to see that, on the list,
ReplyDeletenever tire of Chenonceau. Also had never seen that view of the unfinished part...thx
ReplyDeleteI still have a poster I got in 1970 of chenonceau displayed in one of the upstairs bedrooms here
I never tire of seeing Chenonceau or Amboise. I have needlepoints of both hanging in my living room. Lewis and I saw a sound and light at Chenonceau in 1969. We were camping nearby.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have a needlepoint pillow of Chenonceau on a living room chair. I never tire of looking at it. Thanks for all these pictures of this beautiful chateau, Ken.
ReplyDeleteOh, my, that perspective from the end of the Grande Galérie is a rare view, that we don't usually see. All of these are great! I love that green door and the view out, through the leaded glass.
