Reconfiguring

I'm busy reconfiguring my computer and reinstalling all my applications. Not to mention saving all my data and photos, plus putting everything back where I want it to be.

You see, I installed Windows 7 yesterday. I'd been using Windows XP for 6½ years. This is a big change, and nothing seems to be automatic. I'll be back soon.

  1. XP and windows 7, we have both, one on the lap top and the other on the desk top.
I have to admit opposing emotions between the challenge of something new and the comfort of what I know.
Do you also use an external back uo hard drive?

  2. We have Windows Vista, things went pretty smoothly when we installed. Hope you have success with yours.

  3. Bon courage! Or is it patience that is needed.

I'd be lost without DH. Several friends have had to update their Macs lately and sought advice from Lewis . I guess hassle is the price we pay for the new faster programs we enjoy.

  5. I hope your old PC is up to Windows 7, Ken. I have to say I am leaving XP on my old desktop - "if it's ain't broke, don't fix it"!
I am using W7 on the new laptop, and it's taking some getting used to, but all in all it's a better experience.

  6. I'm catching up on all your beautiful pics of Chenonceau and Chambord. Danielle and I saw them both on the same day and then had drinks with you, Walt and ??. Forgive me, I can't think of her name. It was a very full, very fun day. Thanks for the reminder!

  8. Hi BettyAnn, that was Cheryl who was here in 2008 when you came over in the evening. Yes, as Chris and Tony say, nice weather, good company, Chenonceau, and Chambord made for a very nice day.

About Windows 7, I've been using it for more than a year. I downloaded a beta version from Microsoft in 2009 and installed it on my Compaq laptop, which is no more. It also came installed on my Samsung laptop, and I like it. That's why I bought a copy and have now installed it on my desktop computer, which has everything required to run Win 7. I've had some device problems but all my data including tens of thousands of photos have survived the process.

Sam, I had Vista for a while but wasn't thrilled with it. I finally wrestled it into submission but after trying Win 7 decided it was better.

Judy, XP is getting a little long in the tooth, I think. But it served me well for all those years.

Leon, I backed things up all over the place — on external drives, flash cards, DVDs, CDs, and a second internal hard disk in the computer. I wanted to be safe and it seems to have worked out for the best.

  9. When we updated to Microsoft Word 10 at home I thought that I was never going to learn the new elements in a time efficient manner. Behind every click of the mouse a hidden menu was revealed or so I thought at the time. Now I am beginning to appreciate its features. Transporting documents between home and work is my greatest challenge now as I still operate on Windows 7 in my workplace. Love Windows 7 and surprised by the extra clicks in the later version. Guess the software gurus need to make changes but sometimes I am uncertain of their reasoning. Good luck. Try doing PowerPoint in 10 and watch your frustration level rise with every slide created. However, I must admit that the animations and transitions are whizz bang.
