This was part of our drive across the U.S. state of Nevada, going west to east. I took these photos between 11:20 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on a day in October. They're in chronological order. Nevada is basically a vast desert (284,378 km², 110,0000 mi²). We were on our way from San Francisco in California to Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks in Utah. California is about 50% bigger than Nevada in area, but it has nearly 15 times the population.
Yes, typical landscape in this part of the country. Very beautiful in a sort of way.
ReplyDeleteIs it a mix of cattle and horses grazing in #5 ?
I spent a few hours looking through my archives to see if I could find any of your photos of the desert in bloom between 1998 and 2003. I didn't find any. Not yours, not mine. Of course, I didn't have a digital camera until 1999. Even so...
DeleteDo you or Walt remember when we went to Fonts Point near Borrego Spring? You probably had the Jeep. That’s when. My camera was Kodak 50. And I’m almost sure it’s 1998 from what I remember.
DeleteI seem to have very few photos taken in the U.S. in 1998, but many from August taken with you in Normandy and Paris. First of all, that camera shop in SF ruined my rolls of film from Zion and Death Valley in April 1998.
DeleteI assume the desert flowers woud have bloomed in the spring of 1998. Or it would have been in the spring of 1999? You must not have given me the photos you took at Fonts Point. I remember that I was in the desert in March 1998. That's when I visted you with my mother, on my way back from NC to SF. I remember desert rflowers, but I have found no photos. I didn't have a digital camera in 1998.
I think I have a memory of a photo of my mother with you and me at Fonts Point in 1998. Do you remenber going there with her?
DeleteI don’t recall your mother at Fonts Point. But I recal vividly going to Julian with you and her and visiting an arts and crafts store with beautiful quilts. I seem to remember Mary and Gabby were also there. You have a photo, because I sent it to you, your mother, you, Gabby and possibly Mary.
DeleteDidn't we stop at Fonts Point along the way to Julian to meet up with Gabby and Mary? My mother was with us and didn't walk far but we took in a view of those "badlands".
DeleteOf course it’s possible, but I have no recollection of that.
DeleteBleak and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNot so much bleak as bright, airy, and silent. But yes, a desert.
DeleteWow, once again!
