Rejected again

Packing, driving, and flying today. I'll be back in Saint-Aignan at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 14) — about 8:30 a.m. U.S. Eastern time. I just tried once more to check in for my flight on line, but my session hangs on the computer because I don't have a return ticket or even a return date. I'll have to straighten all that out at the airport by showing the Delta ground staff my French resident's card. I'm not at all sure when I will return to North Carolina, actually, but the airline isn't worried about that. As I've said before, today I'm leaving home to fly home. And I'm ready.

  1. Don't the airlines make some kind of accommodation for people making your sort of family trip?
    Bon chance.

    1. Those arrangements for people flying because of family emergencies no longer exist, as far as I know.

      Emm, you comments keep landing in my spam folder. Don't know why.

    1. Have you never had that happen to you, CHM? The airlines are supposed to require people with American passports to have a return ticket at the time of their departure for France (and probably other countries). They can't figure out what to do with people like me (U.S. passport/French resident).I just have to show them my French residency card at the airport, but I can't easily check in on line or at an automatic kiosk at the airport.

    2. No, I don't recall so. I'm traveling with a US passport and, even though I am a bi-national, I'm not a resident of France. I am traveling from the US to France, and you're traveling from France to the US, that's the difference. You are considered as a US citizen and I'm not considered as a French citizen. All this is somewhat confusing.

    3. I meant I'm not considered as a resident of France. :-)

  3. I guess the main thing is that you are traveling in the conventional direction on a U.S. passport — departing from and returning to the U.S. I'm doing the reverse.

  4. Ken, No idea why I'm spam material. And at the moment I'm in France, so it's ot a US internet thing. Or maybe it is.
    Anyway, I'll just keep reading along even if I can't comment;

  6. Not sure what happened there. Please accept our condolences at this sad time Ken. We have just caught up with your news. I do understand how it can be a blessing to see a love one pass as it was with Leon's dad last year. We are thinking of you. Sue and Leon

  7. Just went through hoops with Air France yesterday trying to get something other than a simple round trip from US to France. Using the multi-destination option yielded huge airfares. My solution involved a simple RT to/from CDG. Then I booked a cheap one-way within France. Surprise when I had to add a baggage charge and a couple of other things that messed with the cheapness and they weren't going to let me pay from outside of France. I don't even remember how many times I had to fill out my complete information. Still, it appears they took my money for both flights. We'll see when I show up at the airport(s).
