Training into Blois

Wow, temperatures here are supposed to be very close to 80ºF today (that's 26ºC), with bright sun. That'll be fun, but then tomorrow one weather site says we're going to get about an inch (24 mm) of rainfall and have a high temperature of 60ºF (about 15ºC). It's a veritable roller coaster ride.

The good weather today and the rain following means it really is time to get out the rototiller and run it over the garden plot one last time before we set out the tomato, bell pepper, eggplant, kale, and squash plants. I want to get that work done so that I can be freed up to go to Paris for a few days.

There's a nice view of this building from the new footbridge at the train station in Blois.

I got to the train station at 2 p.m. without having had lunch, so these pastries were tempting.

Here are a few more photos that I took in Blois the other day when I drove up there to meet Walt at the train station. He was coming from Paris after flying back to France from Montréal on Air Canada.

The first train here is the one Walt was on. It was coming from Paris and going on to Amboise and Tours.

Here's the train from Paris-Gare d'Austerlitz pulling into the station at Blois.

Walt, by the way, is still struggling with jet lag. Sleepless nights and groggy afternoons are the pattern. It's gradually getting better, but he's not up yet this morning so I don't know if he was actually able finally to sleep through the night.

Tomorrow, maybe some photos of my gardening exploits...

  1. I'm wondering what the train situation will be in the days ahead. I think we'll have to be really flexible. The whole political situation is not improving. Let's hope they find some sort of compromise.

    1. I have a plan. I come to Paris on Sunday morning June 5, and then we come back to Saint-Aignan on Tuesday afternoon June 7. There's a 17h37 train that afternoon. Should I buy the tickets? Roland Garros will be over and Walt will pick us up in Blois. You and I can have lunch in Paris that day and then go to Austerlitz for the train.

    2. Your plan is OK with me. If you get here early enough, we can have chicken from the butcher next door for lunch. On Monday we can go to the Japanese restaurant. Pierre is coming to visit me one day this week and I'll be taking him to Le Radis Beurre on Bd Garibaldi. It opened last September and the reviews are very good. If it is really so, we could go there on Tuesday for lunch. How's that?

    3. The June 5 itrain arrives at Austerlitz at 11:23, so the lunch plan, un poulet rôti, sounds perfect.

I'll get the Paris-Blois tickets for Tuesday afternoon. There are only three direct trains per day from Paris to Blois in early June. For some reason, there is a train at 13:13 that takes a little over 2 hours. The 17:37 train, besides giving us time to have lunch in Paris that day, takes only one hour and 24 minutes to make the trip.

  2. Without having had lunch, I would have bought out the supply of those crossants at the terminal. They loook so tasty.

As chm can tell you, we never have problems with the high speed rail lines in Southern California...because they are yet to be built. ;-) In theory they are coming. Along with Elon Musk's hyperloop between LA and SF, lol: https://www.yahoo.com/tech/the-hyperloop-how-elon-musks-dream-is-becoming-a-225746160.html

    1. I'll have to have a look at that web site. Walt is au courant of the Elon Musk hyperloop thing; I'd never heard of it. I was tempted by the croissants at Blois but I had a pan of lasagne cooked and ready to eat at home that afternoon.
