Panasonic pictures of frogs and flowers

We've been hearing them croak for weeks, but the frogs have been very shy this year. Actually, I wasn't sure whether they were toads or frogs, but toads don't stay in the water very long here. They return to dry land as soon has they have bred and spawned, I think.

So these are definitely frogs. The Panasonic camera proved it to me. They are a Kermit-like green in color. And they seem bolder, all of a sudden. I hope they are eating a ton of mosquito wrigglers as they swim around in the pond out back and go "ribbit".

Seriously, the camera is great. I went out yesterday morning and snapped just more than 100 photos over the course of my 45 minute walk with the dog. I saw a lot of plants and a lot of butterflies. The photo below is one that I took of a butterfly at about 30 paces, using macro mode and a long zoom.

I took the photo of daisies, below, the same way — macro mode, with a long zoom. It came out pretty sharp.

And there were a lot of little morning-glory-type flowers on the ground all around the vineyard plots. They're much smaller than this one might look. The flower was probably less than an inch across.

It's raining today and it's Walt's morning to walk Callie, so I won't be getting any new photos this morning. Maybe on the afternoon walk... if the sun comes back out.

  1. Congrats for your photos. They're great, just like the macro mode with a long zoom.

    1. They are the macro mode with a long zoom. I take pictures that way all the time. My new Lumix also has a mode called "Macro Zoom" but I haven't tried that yet.

    1. Sorry to hear that. They don't bite, as far as I know.

  3. Once upon a time I saw a whole puddle that was semi attached to our creek full of small frogs, then there were the tad poles. Ribbit. Your photos are really good.

    1. I was happy when I saw that the animals croaking were green frogs and not brown toads.

  7. Thank you for doing all this testing. I now know what my next camera will be. How's the battery life? I have gotten into the habit of buying two batteries so that I always have a charged battery back up when the first one empties in the middle of something interesting. Anyway, thanks, again.

    1. You are of course welcome, Ellen. Battery life on the Lumix TZ60 seems good, with 200 or even 300 photos on a charge. Just in case, however, I ordered two other batteries and a charger. The Lumix didn't come with a charger, which meant recharging the battery in the camera, immobilizing it for the time it took to come back to full power. The separate charger is better for me. It came with an adapter for the allume-cigare in the car as well as a USB power supply that plugs into an AC wall socket in the house, so you can recharge the batteries wherever you are. If we ever decided to take another road trip, I'd be all set up!

    1. I know what you mean, Chris. We're lucky to have a lot of genouilles in a lot of ponds and castle moats in this part of France. We sometimes see toads too.
