Phare far away

Today is my last full day in North Carolina for now. I'll be driving 3½ hours back to the airport at Raleigh-Durham this morning and flying out late in the day.

That's Cape Lookout lighthouse on the right in the photo, taken with a very long zoom (30x). The lighthouse is 163 feet (50 meters) tall and 10 miles (16 km) from where I'm standing.

I'll arrive at Paris CDG airport early Friday morning French time (2 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time). Then I'll take the train back down to Touraine, with a 45 minute drive at the end — Walt's picking me up — to get to Saint-Aignan. I should be at home by about 1 p.m. after the 20-hour trip. I'll miss the nice weather here on the Carolina coast.

  1. Ah, but you will have better internet connections, plus Walt and Callie and Bert and Saint-Aignan. But I understand wanting to be able to live in two places at once...

    1. Ironically, the internet connection here in N.C. seems to be working pretty well this morning, after acting up for most of my 10-days stay.

    1. Sorry, I am leaving today, in a couple of hours. I get confused when I'm writing a post 12 to 24 hours in advance. Yesterday, today, tomorrow — les jours se suivent et me font tourner la tête !

  3. So glad you've had a nice visit and nice weather! Happy travels tomorrow. Training to Tours, or Blois?

    1. Training by TGV to Tours, because that way it's direct from the airport and I don't have to go into central Paris. The drive from Saint-Aignan to Tours is almost easier, though longer, than the drive to Blois. Besides, Walt has some errands to run in Tours (Paris Store, the Asian supermarket) tomorrow morning before he picks me up at the train station at noon.

    1. Thanks E. Here's to a future trip to France that you and Lew might take, or a future visit in
      Alabama if I can.

  5. Here I am at RDU airport in Raleigh NC. I had an easy 3½ hour drive this morning, and I'm thru airport security 2 hours before boarding starts. For some reason, the security people told me I didn't need need to take my jacket and shoes off before I stepped thru the metal detector. All the other passengers — most looked like teenagers to me — had to submit to a full body scan, but not me. Southern deference to the elderly? And nobody batted an eyelash at the ample size of my carry-on bag. Maybe they assume I have life-support equipment and emergency medications in there. I'm good to go, as they say.

  6. The weather has been gorgeous the past few days. I can't say I'm too keen on having such warm summer-like temperatures in February! I haven't even bothered to get but few winter clothes out this year. I was thinking today that the mosquitos were going to be terrible this summer, not to mention the no-see'ums! Glad the weather cooperated while you here. Seems like that 10 days went by fast! Sorry there were problems with the internet service. I have service with Time-Warner, now Spectrum and I have no complaints at all, except when the electricity goes out I have no phone service. Safe Travels!
