In the summer of the year 2000, Walt went to Italy on a work junket. He decided he would do a stopover in Paris for a few days on his way back to San Francisco. Well, that was enough to motivate me to buy a ticket and fly over to join him. We were extravagant back then. One of the things we did was spend some time in the Saxe-Breteuil outdoor market near Invalides and the Tour Eiffel.
Markets, markets,! :)

Middle age is probably the best time to be extravagant.
ReplyDeleteA bounty of seafood. Though I'm not sure what some of these items are. Sharks on the lower left?? And I'm not sure what on the lower right. This is where I turn American and opt for the shrimp. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes, the fish in the photo on the lower left are little sharks. In everyday language they're called saumonettes and can be one of several species.
DeleteI'm not sure about the lower right. Sole? Turbot? Some kind of flat fish. The others?
And the prices look like they are in francs...
ReplyDeleteThe prices are in francs. These photos were taken in 2000, and the euro came in in 2002.
DeleteI love these markets even though I don’t cook. Wonder how the prices compare now.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to know how prices compare, but it's hard to figure out with both francs and euros in the equation.
DeleteThanks for these. The Saxe-Breteuil market is one of my favorites.
