Quand je regarde la lune...

I woke up at about 4:00 this morning and realized it seemed very dark outside. Then I remembered the eclipse. By 4:30 I was up and taking photos (like many thousands of others, I imagine). Here's the result.

5:07 a.m. Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ60 with tripod

It's hard to draw any conclusions about the cameras from these images. I did feel like I had more luck with the Canon, and the Panasonic seemed a little overwhelmed by the extreme contract conditions of the scene. But then it may all have to do with settings.

Also this morning, I'm going a coffee taste test. The label on the new brique of coffee seems appropriate for the day's main event. But the coffee, L'Or (The Gold) from Maison de Café, is not as rich and tasty as my regular cup of joe (Intermarché Top Budget 100% Arabica), IMO. And it costs three tmes as much.

  1. If I compare photos 1 and 2, it seems to me that the Canon one is slightly sharper than the one taken with the Lumix. What do you think?

    1. Since I processed the two images without really comparing what filters I applied to each, it's hard to say. When I look at the originals, I can't see much difference in sharpness, but the Canon photo is definitely better exposed than the Panasonic photo. That's probably some setting. The fact is that the Canon does seem to do better on telephoto shots and the Panasonic does better in macro mode.

  2. I very sleepily saw the eclipse too, here on the Isle of Wight. I only watched for 10 mins or so so am very grateful for your photos to see the whole process. Thanks

  7. Some of my friends here saw it - but only by driving where there weren't any clouds. Nice photos. There's something magical about people all over the world sharing this moment.

  9. Lovely photos Ken. I tried to photograph the evenement, but could not find the moon, and could not figure out my camera, so finally we just went over to a friend's house for dinner. I have thirty years to prepare for the next one....

  10. We are at Rosemary Beach and had solid clouds. Our son and family from San Diego are here so they missed the moon, but it was visible there. So it goes....Hopefully they'll see it the next time. I'll show them your photos which are very nice.
