I hope we get as many tomatoes from our garden this year as we are going to get apples from the trees in our yard. The apple trees are sagging under the weight of them, and they appear to be ripening quickly.
I don't think this tree has ever had so many apples on it in the 12 years we've lived here.
There are three different kinds of apple trees between our house and the vegetable garden out in yard. The lopsided tree on the right is the one we think might not be long for this world. The other two are doing fine, and all three are proving to be very productive in 2015.
Besides the ones in our yard, there must be a dozen or more other apple trees around the hamlet (9 houses). I guess we all ought to keep donkeys or horses — they'd have plenty to eat. We are going to be buried in apples in a month or two.
Lots of apple tarts, apple sauce and apple jelly in your future! And what else?
ReplyDeleteApple cakes. Oven-dried apples. Apple crisp and apple crumble.
DeleteSounds like it's almost time for us to pay a visit and help pick/cook/conserve apples!
ReplyDeleteIf you want apples, come on down!
DeleteI could help you out with a basket or two.....to take them away, not donate more, that is !!
ReplyDeleteOur one remaining apple tree has dropped all its apples already, due to the drought we think. They are either rotting on the tree or falling off long before they are ripe.
Our best apple tree had to go to make way for the new filter bed but we have found another squashed in amongst the hedge which we think we can rescue for future years. Our predecessors knew less about gardening than our cat. Which is not a lot!
Please do come and get apples, maybe in September. The biggest tree is really loaded with them, and the one that has bright apples too.
DeleteApple envy here.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a year for making hard cider!
ReplyDeleteWhat Sheila said;-)
ReplyDeleteYour tree looks astonishing! My own apple tree has a good crop this year, but nothing, nothing at all to match this!
ReplyDeleteYou can have the fun of giving many gifts of apples.
That first picture is remarkable. So many apples! My mother used to make Pennsylvania Dutch apple butter when we had many on our trees.
