Here's one final slideshow showing photos from Paris, mostly taken in 1998. The first photo is a little newer — it's one that our California friend Sue took of me on a tour boat on the Seine in October 2000.
The man with the ruffled collar is Michel de Montaigne. His statue sits (il est assis sur son derrière) across the street from the main entrance of the Sorbonne. Students who are going to take an exam supposedly rub his shoe superstitiously because it brings them good luck. I've never stayed in the Hôtel California. It's on the rue des Écoles in the Latin Quarter. Friends of our stayed there once, years ago.
