Où est l'hiver ? Voilà la question que nous nous posons. Instead of snow and ice, we're having rain and mud. It's been incredibly mild since December 20, with afternoon temperatures in the mid- to upper 50s F and even above 60 for some days. On New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, the high temperature was 63 degrees. Morning lows have been in the 50s instead of the 20s and 30s that we would expect.
I'd be happy to have some of the kind of weather you see in these photos that I took in and around the vineyard ten years ago.
It's odd - NYC is supposed to be in the low 60s tomorrow. The only thing I know is bulbs, like irises, hyacinths, tulips, daffodils need a good amount of freezing weather to do their thing in the spring.
ReplyDeleteA lot of trees have died around here over the past five years. I think warm wet winters don't agree with them, and then hot dry summers are just too hot for them. On the news yesterday they were saying that in northeastern France and in Germany, whole forests of fir trees are dying because some kind of beetle infestation. The weather isn't cold enough to kill the beetles, so they're just taking over.
DeleteKen, I think these are called "bark beetles." It was a big problem in Arizona. They took out whole sections of pine forests.
DeleteAnd there are people who still believe that global warming is a hoax. Beautiful snowy pictures, thanks.
