Janvier 2004 (6)

Still January 2004 here in these photos taken in Saint-Aignan. The waters of the Cher nearly submerged the island in the river, which is a big park. I'm enjoying seeing these Kodak DC 4800 images again.

Today and tomorrow will be big days here at our house. Tomorrow a crew from Orange, the French telephone company that used to be called France Télécom, will get here in the morning to see about installing our fiber optic internet connection. Today, we have to get ready for them by emptying the buffet full of wine and liqueur glasses under which our current internet and phone jack lurks and moving that piece of furniture out of the way. Wish us luck with the glasses, the furniture, and new new internet connection.  À demain.

    1. Ours is about 14 Mbits right now, for download. Upload is much slower.

  2. Good luck.... Pauline reckons her office has never been as tidysince having to clear for the engineers.
You will notice a complete difference! I am now using the cloud as my work area and backing up originals and processed to a 6Tb drive... there is no difference in speed between the two areas.... I tried the same altered 6500x4940 picture from Photoshop.... no perceivable difference at all!!
    Have fun....

    1. Tell Pauline I know exactly how that feels. I can't wait to take advantage of the cloud for storage. Maybe some of the half-dozen external hard drives I have will be able to go into retirement.

  3. Looking forward to hearing how different the fiber optic is. Our download speed is 75 per those internet test things. Don't know if that's accurate or what it means.

    1. I just checked our D8SL speed. Download is between 12 and 15 Mbps (Megabits per second) and upload is around .8 Mbps. Is your 75 a score in Mbps? Faster internet is a good thing about living in a big city.

    3. Yes I just checked that 75 is in MBPS for download. Wow your fiber speed is amazing. I'm guessing we don't have fiber.

  4. Now it’s the reverse! Upload is faster than download!
