Un acheteur

It looks like I might have found a buyer for the Peugeot — and I wasn't even looking. I had parked the old car out back by the pond, thinking that if I had to have it towed to the mechanic's, it would be easier for the tow truck driver to get it from there compared to getting  it out of our driveway and through the front gate. It's been sitting out there for the better part of a week. I just went out and took a couple of pictures of it.

One of the guys who works out in the vineyard, JP, stopped at our front gate yesterday and asked if the Peugeot was for sale. I've known him for 10 years, but not well. He said his daughter had just got her driver's license and he was looking for clean little used car for her. We haven't yet talked about a price.

I told him where things stood — the car surely needs a new clutch and also needs some rear end work. My mechanic estimates it will cost about 1000€. Nothing is settled, but JP and his daughter managed to drive the Peugeot out about a mile on the dirt road and drove back. He said he had some trouble shifting gears, but thinks the car fits the bill. More as things develop...

  1. Since it seemed to work better than thoughts and prayers, I'll suffer the inconvenience to keep my fingers and toes still crossed for a while!

    1. I just saw an ad for exactly the same car, asking price nearly 3,000 €. That seems very high, but who knows...

    1. I understand that point of view. That's why I'm having a hard time making a decision.

    2. I think we've come around to your point of view.

    3. i'm sure the car will be happy and serve you for good few years more - lets face it, if you passed it at a dealership and saw it "for-sale 999 euros, new clutch" it would catch your eye!

    4. I had the timing belt and water pump replaced just 5k kms/3k miles ago. The fuel pump is just a little older. The 206 is a car I really enjoy driving, and this one is a top-of-the-line model in great shape. All I need — NOT — right now is to have to go out looking for another car, scanning ads or visiting dealers. It would be a major waste of time.

  6. Hmm, but then... only one car? Or the hassle of looking for a new one, that has who-knows-what wrong with it?

  7. I have a little red Peugeot 206 XS with a 1.6 engine. It's now 17 years old and has once again passed it's yearly "medical". It's a marvellous, nippy little run-around, and has less that 50,000 km on the clock. I have someone who is interested in buying it, but I really don't want to part with it.
